Mailchimp flagged your list (Omnivore): here's what actually happened
Omnivore is Mailchimp's pre-send screening system. Before your campaign goes out, it predicts how many addresses will hard-bounce or hit spam traps โ and if the prediction is bad, it flags or suspends the audience. It doesn't tell you which addresses are the problem. That's the maddening part.
What triggers it
- Importing an old list that hasn't been mailed in months โ addresses die at ~2โ3% per month.
- A purchased or scraped list (these are also against Mailchimp's ToS โ don't).
- Lots of role addresses (info@, sales@) and disposable domains.
- Typos from a signup form with no confirmation (gamil.com, hotmial.com).
Getting unflagged
- 1. Clean the list before you appeal. Remove invalid syntax, dead domains, disposables, and stale addresses. Mailchimp support will ask what changed โ "I verified the list" is the answer they want.
- 2. Re-import only the clean segment. Start with people who engaged in the last 90 days.
- 3. Check your domain authentication too. Mailchimp now requires authenticated custom domains for decent deliverability.
